The centerpiece of the renovation of the restaurant at the Kolmenhof Hotel in Black Forest Germany is the lighting fixture consisting of antique silver spoons and forks. It is the first thing you see when you enter the restaurant.

Already back in February I was thinking about Day 72 and the topic of spoon. I was ecstatic over my luck to have this amazing collection of real silverware. It was then that I had a breakthrough realization: either the subject itself interesting or the photo of a mundane subject must be made interesting.

I took over 150 photos of this lighting fixture during the course of the weekend. It was incredibly difficult to get the light right which is why I had to make so many attempts.

By daylight (#2) the color effects weren't so intense but the lighting was easier to work with.

When the lamp was on, I could achieve both silver and gold tones at the same time whereas with daylight the objects all had the same color tone which was more bronze. At night (#3) there were spectacular and beautiful color effects, however, the incandescent bulbs were always playing tricks with my camera's sensors.

I'd like to express my gratitude to Frau Katarina Dold who is the owner of the Kolmenhof Hotel for permission to take photos throughout the hotel and publish them here in PhotoBlog.

Nice camera work! What a cool idea to use the old silverware in such a fashion!

thank you  - similar to outdoor photography I couldn't move or touch the object so I had to work with the light situation as it was, glad you liked them

Thank you Camellia ! I could only use the light available (no extra lights or equipment) so it was hard work, I must say. I appreciate your comment!
