Mail delivery via electric bicycle - German Postal Service

Mail delivery via electric bicycle - German Postal Service

The German Postal Service is committed to reducing their CO2 footprint and emissions not only by using electric bicycles to deliver the mail door-to-door but in the long term by replacing vehicles in their fleet with electric delivery vans.

Of course the non-electric standard delivery bicycle has been around for decades and is gradually getting replaced by the newer models.

I like how you got down low on the first image.  On the 2nd one, training wheels on the front?  I'll be that bike never tips over.  smile And, my ongoing rant:  Do the mail carriers wear helmets when they ride?

Yes, I think folks in Europe and way ahead of us Americans.  What really bothers me is when I see a parent riding a bike and following their kid.  The kid has a helmet, the parent doesn't.  I keep thinking that, if the parent falls and gets hurt, (s)he's traumatized the kid.

The parents without helmuts and the kids with helmuts happens all the time in Germany and I absolutely agree with you. First of all, the parents are supposed to be an example to their children and second, as you point out, how terrible it would be for the kids to see a head injury

Thanks Bob for the comments and praise. They are not really "training wheels" so much as a form of a kickstand. I believe at least on the electric bikes that it is retractable.
The mail carriers of both of these bicycles (who did not want to be in the photograph) were both not wearing helmuts, so I guess it's not required although definitely a good idea.
