The goddess sculpture is totally taking a selfie of herself with her hunting trophy!

The Leopoldsbrunnen (Leopold's Fountain) is a historic landmark dating back to 1630 located in the heart of historic Innsbruck, Austria. It was commissioned by Duke Leopold V. This version of the fountain is from 1893, way before Selfies ever existed...

The fountain was temporarily removed for 3 years during the construction of the Concert Hall (Haus der Musik) which you see in the background and had just "re-opened" about a month before we visited.

We visited Innsbruck over the past Christmas holidays in December 2018 and I just had to take a selfie with her.

Thanks! It was a great opportunity to learn photoshop better. Photo #1 had a light pole running directly through the middle, it took me hours to erase

Who knew that back then selfies were popular. Perfectly matched to today's topic and a nice little lesson in history.

Well, I took the photo before I knew that the 365 challenge on photoblog existed nor that there would be a topic „selfie“ on it…😜

Well, that sculptor certainly was a visionary.  smile

Indeed because what else could she possibly be doing with her arm outstretched like that? Maybe holding a mirror which could be a precursor to the camera…

She could even do a selfie without a camera ! This clearly proves there's no such thing as progress smile

The sculpture goddess has something even more lasting than a photo - a marble and bronze fountain. How many selfies last for over 126 years?
