The town of Längenfeld is located in the middle of the Ötz valley in Austria just about one hour south of Innsbruck and one hour from the Italian border. The entire valley is surrounded by mountains which are about 3000 meters tall.
The Roman-Catholic parish church Holy Katharina was dedicated in 1352 and renovated in a late gothic style in 1518. In 1690 the church was expanded and renovated again, this time in barock style. The latest renovation was in 1970.
The church is built on the side of the mountain Gamskogel. It is very typical for the Alpine region to have the cemetery on church grounds, directly next to the church. Since there is so little space, the cemetery is very crowded.
