View from Schloss Neuschwanstein in Bavaria, Germany

Just over the Austrian-German border there are the most famous castles in the world built by King Ludwig II.

From the balcony of the castle Neuschwanstein you see the Alps, the lake Alpsee and another of his castles, Hohenschwangau - in yellow off to the right.

This capture had to be very quick - in the milliseconds in which the view was clear of people.

To give you some idea of the crowds, the line to take a picture of the Neuschwanstein Castle from outside extended 500-800 meters down the hill and the waiting time was approximately one hour to get to the bridge.

Once you get there you're still not alone...

... unlike waiting in line for the shot at the Delicate Arch. At least after waiting you are alone in your photo...and the line isn't so bad...

Wow, what a view! I want to visit Neuschwanstein, but just like Björn, I'd very much prefer to get here on a not so busy day and even after the high season. That line is crazy!

Hi Piotr if you can be flexible with your travel plans then definitely go in fall/ winter and during the week. As I mentioned to Bjoern to see inside the castles (no photography allowed inside) you should reserve the tickets online in advance. From inside the castle you can get out onto the balcony for the view which I posted. That photo was allowed because it was no longer of the castle property.

I'm working on a blogpost for "what to expect when visiting Neuschwanstein" I'll be posting it either today or by the end of the week. I'll add the link to this blog and as a comment to you or you can just watch for it on the feed

Jeezes ... Neuschwanstein has been on my to visit list for some time, but if I do it, after seeing that line of people I'm definitely not gonna visit it in a weekend or popular holiday ...

To get inside the castle you should reserve tickets online, then you get a date and specific entry time like 10:55 so there’s only the line to pick up your prepaid and preordered tickets, which also can be long. It might be beautiful with snow in the winter months

Order online, pay online, but still have to pick them up physically ... Progress clearly has its limits at Neuschwanstein smile

😂😂 you didn’t miss anything from a photographer’s perspective, from the bridge you see the full castle but you need really good weather for that photo to turn out
