This book re-interpretes the classic fairy tales and places them in a (United States) modern context. For example, the Pied Piper of Hamelin takes place in a trailer park.
Most of the well-known "fairy tales" originate from Germany (to be precise: the German language, since the country of Germany didn't exist when the Grimm Brothers wrote them).
One of the funniest "re-interpretations" of the classics in German language I've ever read was Little Red Riding Hood written in bureaucratic (legal) German as if it was a police report. I laughed until tears came to my eyes.
If you understand German, here is an example: "...einem polizeilich nicht gemeldeten Wolf ohne festen Wohnsitz..." :-) :-)
