Alpine Home, Germany

This is the home of the family which owns the farmland and runs the lodge "Obere Firstalm" in the alpine region of Bavaria near Lake Spitzing at an altitude of 1370 meters.

What a beautiful setting for a home.

The final stretch to get to the lodge on our mountainbikes was a steep uphill with 11-16% grade over 3-4 kilometers; we had already been climbing for about 1,5 hours but not so steep. Sometime after about 2 kilometers, I felt a burning sensation in my right knee and I decided to get off and push the bike the rest of the way since I didn't have much strength in that leg. This was my weak knee which was operated on after a mountainbiking accident six years ago.

We were glad for the break at the lodge and enjoyed the view.

Fortunately it was all downhill to get back to the car and then back to the hotel. After a couple of hours, I developed a huge bruise from internal bleeding right above the knee. Back at the hotel I put ice on it and we briefly discussed whether I should go to the emergency room. No, we didn't. Four weeks later, I was still in pain so I saw an orthopedic specialist who told me that I had torn the quadriceps muscle right above the knee.

It's now 8 weeks later and I'm so frustrated not to be able to do any cycling. In fact, I'm not even supposed to climb stairs much less mountains. It may take over a half a year to heal.

That injury is keeping me stuck at home, dreaming of mountains.

PS. I chose to show somebody else's home today since I had already shared the photos related to "my" home in the blogs: Sidewalk and Your Neighborhood and of my childhood home in Where you are from

Thanks for the compliment. Which mountains do you call “home”?

It is a beautifull setting to live. Sad to hear from your injury. Hang in there.

Indeed. Thanks for the good wishes. I also notice it when I get in position for a particular shot and get reminded that I can’t do such a deep knee bend at the moment, good thing the indoor photography season has started
