Dreaming of vacation

Dreaming of vacation

Week 12: Books

During last year's 365 challenge I learned about the importance of setting the scene with props when capturing food. In addition, I discovered that I personally need several days of incubating ideas before I have one which resonates and I can develop a story to go with it.

For the topic of Books, I got out my travel guides from 20 years ago and enjoyed the warm spring weather in my backyard and did some day-dreaming.

Most of us are frustrated that we cannot leave our houses due to coronavirus much less travel out of the country. No one knows when or where it will be safe to travel again and that makes vacation planning impossible right now.

Where would I go if I could go anywhere? I'd like to go back to the Greek islands.

I composed the shot using various props like the beach towel, map, hat, sunglasses and of course the books. A little olive tree in a planter provided some shade because the midday sun was very harsh.

However, it took hours to capture the scene in a way that when you look at the photo it feels authentic, like I just stepped away. (I hope, anyways). I used the zoom lens because of its narrower frame.

It‘s disrupted our travel plans to the US for May. We can all only wait and see. Antartic and Siberia, wow those are two very cold places! I‘m too old for such adventures I’ve discovered. I hope you can make your dream destination come true

It totally grabbed my eye. Very nice composition and that olive tree does give a unique shape/shadow to everything. Well done!
