Not a Macro

Butterfly on a Thistle

Butterfly on a Thistle

I love the Fujinon 55-200mm Zoom lens - it's so precise! You can see the tiny curled antenna.

Correction: it‘s not an antenna but a proboscis which is a suction tube to extract the neckar. I‘m still researching, but yes, Tsao is probably right that it is a butterfly.

Pure nature photography - no editing :-)

Love this beautiful capture. This may be not a macro, but you show his / her antenna very well.
Is he /she a butterfly (Hesperiidae)?

Tsao, you amaze me! Indeed I believe you are correct that it is a Hesperiidae. https://austria-forum.org/af/Natur/Fauna/Insekten/Schmetterlinge/64_Hesperiidae_-_Dickkopffalter/Ochlodes_sylvanus_-_Rostfarbiger_Dickkopffalter/Falter_1
I found it here - latin name could be ochlodes sylvanus.

At first I didn‘t think it could be a butterfly because of its size and wing structure.
Thanks very much for your helpful comment!

It's my pleasure. And glad you sent the detail information to me!smile

Wow, so precise! The contrasts between the incredibly crisp moth and thistle, the slightly fuzzy second thistle and the blurred, seemingly motion-filled background make it rich.

Thanks Clare! It is a favorite because it also features complementary colors purple and green 🙂

Thanks Peter. It is much better than a similarly priced „professional“ lens from Fujinon XF 16-55 1:2.8 RLM WR

Great capture! I use my Nikkor 55-200 and 70-300 in the same way very often, mainly because I can't bend very well after two lumbar surgeries. I love the bokeh, too.

Thanks John. I‘m sorry to hear about your back, that must be so limiting! I can sympathize. This was a „butt shot“ - sitting on my backside because I have a bum knee and cannot kneel nor squat down anymore. 😉
I doubt the camera manufacturers know about our unusual „use cases“ for their equipment 😜

We do learn to accommodate, don't we? I now see the attraction of cameras with the tilting live view LCD screen. I have also used a "selfie" stick with my cell phone camera and remote to get down low. Take care of that knee and bring on the butt shots!
