I bought the Canon 18-55mm IS lens, these are the first shots with it. I like this lens a lot. I also bought the 50mm f/1.8 which I'll be trying out tomorrow…

Balboa Park Cactus Garden has so much variety of plants

Dos Amigos

This tree reminded me of a Dr. Seuss character

I sat here watching this bee for two minutes. He was literally taking a bath in this flower. I've never seen a bee do this before.

Here he is somersaulting one of many times inside the flower. It was comical to watch. He left covered in pollen.

Ah, bloody bees, always getting wasted. Never a thought for tomorrow...

Enjoy your new lenses. I thought the 18-55 came as a kit on your camera. Anyway, your 50 will serve as an excellent portrait lens, as it behaves like a 80 mm portrait lens. In my experience, it's best to avoid the wide-open aperture (too much chromatic aberration and some nasty fringing in bright situations). From 2.8, it's great.
