Grand Canyon Sunrise

by Larry Nelson May. 14, 2011 2198 views

When my son, John, and I were at the Grand Canyon for sunrise, the temperature was 16 degrees (F)! The colors got better as the sun rose higher in the sky and shone light down into the depths of the canyon.

The rising sun painted this rock formation on the South rim while the rest of the canyon was in shadows.
If you enlarge this shot you can see several people standing on the rock outcropping.

Most of the sunrise spectators left before the sunlight reached the floor of the canyon.

As the sun rose, the colors became more brilliant.

Reminded me of the magnificent scene in the classic, 'Mckenna's Gold'!

And another place called 'Tiger Hill' near Darjeeling where the snow covered peaks turn blood red momentarily as the sun rises.
