Releasing High Water

Norfork Lake has been near the top of the dam, and ten flood gates have been opened to release the water to reduce the lake level. Several dams are used to manage flooding along the White River in northern Arkansas and southern Missouri. The White River eventually empties into the Arkansas River and into the Mississippi River.

Water is nearing the top of the Norfork Dam.

The floodgates at the end of the dam are releasing tons of water every minute.

A closer view showing the water flowing.

Wow! These give great perspectives on the amount of water that dam is holding back! Put the last in my faves because it's just a beautiful shot!
