Bryce Canyon National Park

Bryce Canyon National Park (Utah, USA) has lots of color and unique formations called “hoodoos,” The light was best around mid-day, which is not generally the case, but the angle of the sun needed to be high in order to fully illuminate the columns.

Better enlarged. This is one of several “amphitheaters” in Bryce Canyon.

These formations are called “hoodoos.” (Don't know why . . . )

Some hikers followed a steep, winding path 800 feet to the bottom.

This formation was named “Thor's hammer.”

Another unique formation group called “grottoes.”

I am about to tackle Bryce and Zion in my next blog or two.
Light wise we did everything in late afternoon. Am glad to see the light at mid-day.
Well done once again!

Fairy tale land full of castles....beautiful and magical!! Excellent shots, Larry!
There's an area east of Colorado Springs called Paint Mines....and there are hoodoos there, too!

The grottos intrigue me here Larry! Did you hike down at all? I looked up the origin of hoodoo. While not a CLEAR answer it appears to have something to do with "voodoo" and the feeling of many past peoples thinking that these were petrified evil giants.... or something like that. 8^)
