The Air Force Memorial (Warning: ART)

When I heard about the evening field trip to the Air Force Memorial [airforcememorial.org] to look at nighthawks I immediately agreed to go along because I've wanted to take photos there at night for ages. Whatever your opinion might be about the military, you have to admit that this is a freaking cool memorial (or at least I think it is).

These things are supposed to mimic airplanes taking off - I definitely think there's a sense of movement in them. They're really tall.

This is the arty bit that I warned you about, megs.

Huge and monumental type monuments

A UFO landed while we were there

Pretty cool if you ask me. That tiny white thing in the background is the Washington Monument, across the river.

It would be a bit disappointing if the monument were not monumental. As it is, this monument is in no way disappointing.

OMG, it looks like they took the Gateway Arch apart and moved it from STL!

      *wince* ;)

Glad you all like it. It's a pretty new monument, and it's over by the Pentagon instead of being on the Mall or whatever, so I don't think people know about it much - I just know it because you see it when you drive over Memorial Bridge to Virginia.
