The Genestealers leap into the battled hardened Ultramarines! Who will emerge victorious?

Today I met up with a friend at our local Games Workshop store to play my second, his first, game of Kill Team!

It was a classic matchup between his Ultramarines and my Tyranids.

Ultramarines

  • 2 Intercessors
  • 1 Intercessor Gunner
  • 1 Intercessor Sergeant
  • 2 Sniper Scouts
  • 1 Regular Scout

Tyranids

  • 2 Warriors
  • 1 Lictor
  • 3 Genestealers

We played 3 narrative missions so we could see how the specialist skill trees worked. We decided to simply move everyone up in the tree after each mission Since we were just getting started we also decided to re-use the same kill teams for each mission and ignored the campaign resource points.

Disrupt Supply Lines

We started with the first narrative mission in the core manual with Ultramarines as the defender and Tyranids as the attacker. The objective was simple, be on the supplies to claim them when the mission ended.

"The Void Eye" takes his position next to his Genestealer brother, "The Crimson Echo".

Meanwhile, "The Void Eye" is eyeing up this scout sniper who can't be allowed to keep the team pinned down.

While the squishy scouts are being dealt with on the ground floor, the Intercessors have dug in on the catwalk above and won't be as easy to eliminate.

On the other side of the catwalk, "The Inescapable Devil" and his sidekick "The Ominous Scream" had the Ultramarine leader in their sights.

Through a combination of missing some rules, it being only my second game, and the tactical prowess of my opponent, the Ultramarines secured the supplies they needed and clenched victory!

But, now they had to carry those supplies out of the kill zone!

We cleared off the board, re-setup the terrain and got setup to jump into our second mission.

Ambush

Now that the Ultramarines had their supplies, they had to make their way out of the kill zone in one piece! We setup with the Ultramarines as defenders again, and Tyranids as attackers who would launch the Ambush.

First the scout falls and both lunged into the Ultramarine's Comms Specialist who takes one wound but still stands due to his superior Primaris engineering.

Once the Genestealers reached the Ultramarine lines they cut them down and prevented them from shooting long enough for the rest of the Tyranids to close in and cleanup the rest.

The Tyranids secured victory in the second mission!

Feint

Onto our third, and final mission of the day. With the Tyranids victorious in the last mission they now took a defensive stance. The Ultramarines knew they had to push back hard on the Tyranids and make their numbers seem greater than they were in order to drive back these beasts and get the supplies out.

The Ultramarines grouped together in even stronger numbers now. Hoping their consolidated firepower will eliminate this Tyranid threat once and for all!

Then advanced forward, using the abandoned containers and oil drums as cover.

"The Inescapable Devil" seemed to be surrounded... was this the end, or part of this cunning plan?

In the end the Tyranids were victorious again! Ending the day with 2 wins and 1 loss. At the end of the last battle, the Ultramarines were cut down by "The Inescapable Devil", "The Void Eye" and my Lictor "The Lurking Shroud" (not yet painted which is why he's not in any of the photos ;)

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed this battle rep of Kill Team. As this is my first go around of putting a narrative to my photos I realized I need to do a better job of capturing the end of battles haha. Kinda anti-climatic to tell you what happened without showing you...
