"Just living is not enough," said the butterfly...

I`ve spent a day in Mainau - an island in Lake Constance, Germany – with Jamie a couple of weeks ago. Beside flowers, there is a great park landscape with beautiful views on the lake. There is also a greenhouse with tropical climate and thousands of butterflies in it. Due to weekend, there were hundreds of visitors, Jamie was scared of the free flying beauties and he was hiding behind me most of the time while holding on to my trousers…

enlarge me please, to see my cool eyes!

Beautiful shots! I love to photograph butterflys, mine are usually dissapointing but yours are wonderful! I understand tho about wanting "that perfect shot". Try, try again, we love it.

Last time i tried taking pictures of butterfly i also was disappointed. You always are looking for that perfect shot (as focussed said). but the mostly low lightconditions wont allow you to do the things you want. Gonna try it again this summer, have to go alone, Pauline thinks its to hot in a greenhouse:-)
Anyway this set contains some good shots and great to watch, so just keep looking for the perfect one, thats is our drive:-)

Good set - I love the focus on the head of the insect in #5. If these were hand-held you must have a very steady hand :)

Absolutely spectacular and gorgeous macros!
From all angles, in all their magical beauty.
Butterflies as I've never been able to catch.
Bright colors and crisp eyes.
Soft, blurry background.
#1 & 5 are my favs in this outstanding post.
I just wonder how it would have been if as expected, the results would have been better (wich is a little hard to imagine...).

I had to laugh reading your story! We visited a butterfly conservatory this winter also and the same thing happened... there were kids who didn't like it AT ALL! Who could have predicted that butterflies would scare them?!?!

You got some great shots despite the child attached to leg issue! :-)

I just love butterfly's! The butterfly conservatory in Canada was one of my favorite places I have ever been to. Beautiful photos.
