Much ado about nothing

Do you know that feeling when you have a plan and it turnes out to be a disaster? Early september I`ve got the great wish to get some shots of a resident wels in the river of Rhein at Rheinau, CH.
1. Preparing, packing and driving there 2 hrs
2. Finding a parking place 30min
3. Carrying about 60 kg of diving and photo equipment about 500m down to the river 30 min (had to turn a few times)
4. Preparing gear and putting on equipment 1 hr (only to get into my dry suit – a horrible thing - requires about a half an hour)
5. Set up camera, get in water, buddy check 30min –
The half afternoon has already passed and we are still not underwater :(
6. Finally diving! about 40 min, not longer, because my drysuite – which as its name says supposed to stay dry inside – is full of water, leaked trough the neck sealing, a pretty unconfortable feeling which I wont describe…
The result: ok, we have found the wels but hiding deep under a rock, so I could get just a bad shot of its moustache, about a meter visibility – more than bad -, unexpected strong current, wrong white balance setting – the only feature I cannot control through the housing of course -, a bitten off mouthpiece of my regulator, so I was drinking water the whole time… a disaster.
But at last, my son has saved my day… he has recognized his mom coming back to him underwater and I could make the only shot that was worth to keep and share…

still full of hopes with Bea, my dive buddy, a very talented underwater photographer and goldsmith (she creates jewelry based on her underwater macro photos)

my sweetheart wishes me good luck

Peter, Mr England, one of my best friends, a fanatic divecenter owner

hope Jamie will join me soon… he is already practicing

here still happy…

after the disaster dive :(

i, contrary to you, absolutely enjoyed seeing and reading this reportage.

glad to see you're back under water every now and then... even if it's in a leaking dry suit.

Well if only for that beautiful shot, Monika, I believe it was worth the price.
I truly love that shot.
