I've posted a couple shots from this old farmstead already, the open “hay door” of the barn and yesterday's blue door on the house. Here are a few more and a story to go with them.

This old farm is in the very small town of Florissant, CO and visible from the highway that runs through town. You know me (and I know you) - had to go shoot it! There were no “No Trespassing” signs - the place was deserted so it had to be okay!

I was shooting the interesting wire fence near the driveway when I heard a car roar in, stop, and turned to see a woman and man get out of the car and come storming towards me. Yikes!

They said loudly, “WHAT are you DOING??!!!

I was like, ”Um, um, I'm just taking some photos…of this fence.“ (It was true).

They pointed at my husband who was further inside the property looking at the old barn and said, ”NO, HIM!! What's HE doing??!!“

Well, to make a long story short, by the time we'd talked awhile things calmed down, we discovered a common interest in photography, and they realized we meant no harm.

They said they'd had things stolen so were wary when they saw (from their house a distance away) people at the old place. They talked some about the history of the place and also told the story of the Swedish clothing company who'd rented the farm a few years back to shoot for a new catalog…big motorhomes in the driveway, lots of posing Swedish models, and all!

As they left they said, ”Stay here as long as you want to, walk around the buildings and take as many photos as you wish, it's okay. But if anyone else comes along, please tell them they don't belong here!" Score!!!

I plan to go back, but next time I'll bring some prints of my shots of the old place to give them if they show up again. Nice folks, really!

They all have such character. Especially the one of the fairy lights.

What an interesting story Marsha, it seems that these people are watching all the time their property, probably with video surveillance. But the shots came out very good, especially the fence :))

Interesting story Marsha, and I can add a little to it. I used to buy the occasional garment from a Swedish designer called Gudrun Sjödén - I would describe her style as Rich Hippie. She sends out very beautifully produced mail order catalogues, with beautiful models (of various ages and sizes) in interesting locations worldwide. You guessed it - I seem to remember your location being used. Unfortunately, I had a clear out of old catalogues recently so I am unable to find "your" lovely old farm. Maybe it is still on her web site.
