Fortress

Another sight you’ll see when traveling on the bumpy dirt road on past Owl Creek Pass to Silver Jack Reservoir. The massive rock formations in this area are astounding. If you love shooting landscapes as I do, you can’t go wrong.

So inspiring. Im gonna make a point to fly my plane over to this area next spring. So awesome- thanks for sharing Marsha. Did you notice any little airports around?

Yes, absolutely. Montrose which is a good sized town (by Colorado standards) has an airport and is only about 30 miles from Ridgway. Best rent a Jeep. So many, many wonderful places with breathtaking scenery within a 90 or so minute drive from there...don’t stop with Owl Creek Pass!

You are so kind Marsha. Thank you. I plotted a quick course- Montrose is ~690 miles from my home base making it an easy 4 hr flight with one stop. I know Crusted Butte but its been years. When next seasons snow thaws you may see me overhead!

Sounds like a trip! Pretty sure if you can get out there you’d really enjoy, especially with camera in hand.

I like to "air camp" meaning... throw the tent in the plane and land in off airport locations and sleep on the spot. Usually no people.. except occasional Jeep types! I have another blog on Tumblr under the name of Aircampers. All photos of friends and own camping under the wing and stars. Colorado next Spring! I will lean on your input when the time is right!
