Mama’s Boy

by Marsha January. 12, 2020 400 views

These two mule deer, a doe and one of her fawns (not so small anymore), parked themselves just beyond my back fence for a little lie down. They watch humans hopefully to see if there might be a treat in store, but they’re out of luck with me. People in town have been feeding the deer which leads to a higher deer population than normal which in turn leads to many problems. A few of these are vehicle accidents, attraction of predators such as mountain lions into neighborhoods, and more disease among the deer. So sorry, mama doe and fawns, you’ll just have to forage for food...the way nature intended.

You are doing the right thing, but it's almost impossible to resist those eyes smile

You bet it is! And there have been a few times in the past that I relented to those eyes. In the past few months, however, the city has been cracking down with big fines for deer feeders so I’m passing.

Many people don't realize that feeding wildlife is not a good idea. In my city, there are actually by-laws against that. Nice capture of this mama and fawn pair.

Yes, our city has the same. I think it limits the feeding, but certainly doesn’t stop it. There’s been talk about allowing bow hunting with permit in town to reduce population. That idea not going over well with lots of people.
