How many of you have read The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis? If you haven't, you are way behind. That said, in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Narnia is frozen under the spell of the evil, but enchanting, Snow Queen. When Narnia is first discovered by the first two of the four Pevensie children, they have arrived through the wardrobe and immediately come upon a lightpost in the cold, snowy woods.
I have just returned from spending several days in northern Bavaria in a region famous for little valleys and hiking trails. It had snowed hard upon my arrival, and the second day boasted a splendid sunrise over the frozen forest of firs and streams. The scenery I beheld reminded me of “Narnia”, found in a splendid series of books that I have read a half-dozen times and look forward to reading again and again.

These are a few of the pictures I was able to take with my cell-phone, since I had foolishly left my camera at home (I know: “Tsk, tsk, thumbs down to Jay! Shame upon thy house!”). Lesson learned.
Two days later, every bit of this snow was GONE! Now to get photos of the flooding rivers and streams!
