Heidelberg Castle

by Jay November. 29, 2011 3436 views

Heidelberg Castle was once an immense residence and court that fell into ruin after war and ravaging fires. In time, the massive towers, several meters thick, began to collapse under their own weight.

The extensive size of this castle and its gardens will simply amaze any visitor. The history it has endured from Frederick Barbarossa through the middle of the 17th century is rich. Engravings of court life here and the layout of the vast, tiered garden system remain in part, but one need only a bit of imagination to fathom what once lay here.

Heidelberg, Germany
