So today was the day that the Duchess and I went for our warm-up hike. We hadn't been out on one of our treks since before the onset of winter.

We decided to take a familiar route not far from Bad Cannstatt, where I live, and we hiked up the Rotenberg to see Their Late Majesties, have coffee overlooking the vast vineyards and to simply catch up. Her Grace and I hadn't had the chance to “chatten” in a while.

It was a very nice day, and this is what we saw.

Entry to a “wine cave”

Soon they will be lush and green, but what a marvelous silhouette these trees make in the meantime!

I love the white bark on this tree.

It became my friend. Nice tree :-)

The Rotenberg: Their Late Majesties of Württemberg sleep here - permanently.

More silhouettes and mistletoe.

My friend again, standing proudly over the vineyards above the Neckar

Mr. Knobby

A nice variety of trees on the Rotenberg.

Can you name that blossom in three notes? _________________.

I can pronounce it, but I know I can't spell it. Anyone out there want to give it a try? Does it start with an F or a Ph?

All throughout Germany, one comes across these little one-room structures along mountain and country paths. They usually have nice garden varieties all round them. As spring advances, the colors and flora seem to explode. T'is the season in Baden-Württemberg!

See text above.

I think that's clear.

Forsythia!! So funny to see them... when my kids were quite young I tried to teach them a few plants and 'forsythia' was one of them!

I'm guessing the "Their Late Majesties of Württemberg" were a little quite during your visit?? But of course you didn't take it personally?!

I love this set... next time call me before you and the Duchess leave, perhaps I'll join you! 8^)
