At least it's still standing!
Well, of course if possible, many German architects seem to feel some odd need to alter what is old whether it needs it or not. Or, they just get the politicos to tear it down so they can build something without soul. So, adding something glass around it always seems to be the way to do it - in their opinions. Gee, how original.
Well, since they feel they HAVE to do something, I guess the “modernization” of this particular building is probably the least offensive as compared to other travesties committed to old architecture here: things I wouldn't waste the click of the camera on.
At least they let the building remain standing and didn't replace it with something like they did here: German architects' idea of “modern improvements” [photoblog.com]
I make no bones about not being a friend of many German architects and city planners. (I.e. “Stuttgart 21” and all that it is destroying here.)
