Late Easter post

Because I was wandering the streets of Zürich for Easter this year, and I was not in my own home (as is usual on weekends), I decorated no eggs for Easter. So, I have photographed old photographs of the last year that I made a huge amount of Ukrainian Easter eggs (pysanky). Must've made almost 60 that year. I have also included a shot of me actually making them. You can see what a mess it can be to do it, but I love every minute of that mess!! The smell of melting beeswax and candle flames add to the atmosphere of an ancient tradition.

And no, I am not Ukrainian. I taught myself how to do this when I was about 16 years old. I thought the art fascinating. A couple of Easters ago I posted the last several that I ever made.

Perhaps I will pick it up again one day. We'll see.

P.S. They are real eggs (chicken mostly, and some goose eggs), and in staying with the original tradition, the eggs are NOT blown. As they get older (and if they do not crack or break in the meantime), they dry out inside and become like little rattles.

Jay, these are literally works of art! I love the teal one, plus the two at about 8:00 & 9:00. My goodness, what a gifted guy you are! Thanks so much for letting us see this very creative side of you.

Great shots! I didn't make any this year either and I didn't even get the dozens and dozens of them that I have out of the boxes... I think Vera being 1 influenced that decision! :)

What a treasure they are absolutely beautiful. You are obviously talented in this homemade craft , but it does look very difficult , well done for learning it.
