Weekend Diary

Reto and I had planned a bike tour on the Weinstra?e (Wine Street) beginning in Wissembourg (on French side of the border with Germany) on back into the German Palatinate. We were going to cycle only about 30 kilometers in all but were going to enjoy some castle ruins, half-timbered villages, eat as much Flammkuchen as possible and of course other assorted goodies along the way.

Well, the good old weatherman got his wires crossed. Saturday was supposed to be the GOOD day and Sunday the rainy one. Well, once we arrived in Wissembourg from Karlsruhe, the rain started, so we only got about 5 kilometers into our trip before deciding to give it up.

Sigh, well, another time, then. (But we had good food all weekend anyway :-)

Now we get to look forward to doing it again another time!!

Getting the bikes from Durlach to Wissembourg

We biked into the town of Wissembourg, Alsace Region, just across the border from the German Palatinate.

I do seem to have this thing for ancient hinges on massive wooden doors (Medieval church of Wissembourg). The work is really something.

I posted another shot of this over a year ago on my first visit to Wissembourg. Love these windows in the roof.

Reto found a tour bus that he liked along the way. Hmm, I wonder why.

Aaah, bad luck with the weather, but there is nothing you can do to stop that! Glad you had fun anyway!

I love this series! Although I'm not totally convinced you really WANTED to bike all the distance... I think eating ones way through a day is a much better idea! :) Very cool shot of your bikes... great town... awesome hinges... fascinating windows ... and brilliant Reto!

Great shot of the hinges and I remember that unusual building with these strange roof windows before .
