Le Chamechaude with its 2082 m is the highest mountain of the Chartreuse. it is a favorite hiking, biking and skiing area at a distance of 20 - 25 km from the city of Grenoble.
there is a quite steep walk up to the summit starting from the parking lot of the small town Col de Porte at 1326 m. the walk is considered to be an easy one (not for everyone, though :\)
the last stage of the hike to the summit includes a real rock climbing of about 15 m with a cable installed in a vertical stone wall
