Steve built his RV-6 aircraft from scratch. the RV stands for Richard VanGrunsven, who began his company in Oregon which is producing the kits for the RV model lines since more than 30 years

RV aircrafts are low-wing monoplanes of traditional aluminum construction controlled by a between-the-knees stick. they have outstanding low speed characteristics, efficient long distance touring capabilities, and they excel in sport aerobatics

the RV-6 models were introduced in 1986. Steve built the 180 horse power model a few years ago. his aircraft has a top speed of 200 mph, its cruising speed is around 180 mph, but the takeoff and landing speed is an amazing 50 mph resulting in a corresponding distance of about 400 ft

in the event of an unavoidable crash landing (e.g., engine failure over rough terrain), the RVs low landing speed is a real lifesaver. actually Steve survived a crash with his previous airplane. he walked away the emergency landing without any injury due to the rugged cockpit structure and sturdy roll bar

It has a pop art look to it, very cute... like a toy... which undoubtedly is NOT how a man wishes his 'toy' described! :-)
