THE SUQ - MARRAKESH

by Marilyn Grimble October. 19, 2019 280 views

Hot, dirty and crowded, but an experience

Pomegranates - of which the Moroccans are very fond ...

Upon our arrival at the airport a hotel car took us to our destination - sadly the first thing I saw was one of these horses drop down dead. In pairs they trot, but the temperature was 41 deg C. It happened at a crossing and we saw easily as the lights were red. The poor thing had no chance of getting up.

The snake charmers!

Mambas

Where we had afternoon tea ( mint, of course!)

View across the square from where we enjoyed a welcome cup of refreshing tea.

I admit I did buy a Calvin Klein watch for 30 euros - which has already given up the ghost! :) ... and a long dress Arab style for lounging.

Hmmm! Not an experience I wish to repeat. Hot, dirty and dusty. Couldn’t wait to return to the hotel and shower! Mxx

The mambas are mesmerizing, but 41 ºC must have been brutal.

It was 41 deg. the first two days. We did nothing but sit by the pool in the shade and bathe! Plenty of water too. That is why Des took me to the seaside, though the wind off the Atlantic was punishing. It was only 33 when we visited the suq and the gardens. However, I prefer a sanitised Europe! Mxx

Des just told me they are cobras, not mambas! Mxx

Unfortunately you are harassed for ridiculous amounts of money if you watch. Mxx

Looks like quite an exciting outing, especially with the uncaged venomous snakes! Yikes! Nice photo report!+1

I would imagine their venom had been removed! But I still didn’t go to close,
Thanks Jay. Mxx
