The Sicily has always had a strong relationship with the religion. Monk, healer, scholar, protecting of the harvest, black; we are speaking about the loved and revered saint more of the western Sicily: Saint Calogero. In the culture peasant he is the protecting saint of the summery harvest, and he comes considered from the popular tradition in a position to curing and recovering the sick ones, above all the children. The children, often terrorized, come approach to the statue of the saint for blessing. To the passage of it launches the faithfuls launch from the small balconies previously blessed bread shapes, “muffuletta”, collected and conserved votive breads like pledge of abundance and protection from part of the saint.
