Lazy Monday

This brown pelican was basking in the early morning sun. If I could have read his mind, he would have said: “don’t bother me with your petty photography, I’m resting“.

I swear I saw him roll his eyes at me.

That’s magic. Something about the weirdness of Pelicans makes for a fantastic photo

Totally agree... and then to watch that weirdness glide so gracefully across the water. It almost seems out of character.

Thanks.

Funny fellow - his back side is almost falling of the pole! Of course it was "rolling its eyes" to keep its balance and to watch you. Great shot!

Thank you. We mainly have the brown pelican, which is our state bird. We have some white pelicans and get a lot more during the migration.

Great shot, Shane. Sometimes I also believe, that animals are tired of being photographed. smile

I totally agree... especially at certain refuges that are frequented by photographers. This was not at a refuge but I definitely saw some annoyance in his eyes after the first few shots.

I love this shot. So clear and lovely. It says “contentment’.

Thank you... the white pelicans are here now. I watched them glide in small groups (3-5) across the water. They would hover about 6” above the water for really long distances. Then when they did flap their wings, it was like synchronized swimming... they would flap in unison. It was amazing to watch.

Thank you... he was an easy subject. He wasn’t going anywhere, so I could take my time with this shot.
