as we went on, feeling the heat of the burning ruins in our back, the ground changed from a scarred brown to glowing red, glassy from the melt down of ancient powers. the warm wind howled the grounds here. and though we could walk without charring our feet, the earth still seemed to be violently upset; like lava stopped short in it's relentless flow by a demon of ice.

not a single plant had found its way through the molten layer, the wind had blasted away any dust. the whole place looked oddly constructed and reminded me of times when this was the result of skillful work, not a side product of destruction.

this place had been used for many purposes, before and after the great melt. there were bumps and dents and scars in the landscape that gave away ancient crossings, corners of buildings collapsed and holes in the surface where, maybe, former fundaments anchored a fallen house. but even these old traces were overwritten and reclaimed by the survivors, yet broken and ruined and conquered again by successors, invaders and time. until, at last, it all had burned down to this desert of glass and decay.

we decided not to stay too long. we searched the area for reusable items such as splinters that could be cut into a knife's blade. melted glass could be grinded and sharpened to exquisite tools; though we lacked the toolmaker in our bolo'traval. so warily we just grabbed what was taken with ease, what looked promising to keep and to trade.

without saying a word, our footsteps alone had their conversation with hell; a place where nothing happens.
