3 days into the swamps, trailing on paths that are sickening to the soul as much as the body. everything is damp, muddy, stinking from the muddy vesture of decay.

we are constantly fighting of leeches, spiders, snakes, duck attacks when passing by the bubbling ponds that are fed by the waters from hot underground springs, remnants of broken drainage pipes. the ground is moist and slippery and our steps are often insecure, but so far no one has been injured.

most annoying are the bloodrats. we can hear their hoarse squeaks long before we pass by one of their lair trees, from which they dangle down with their long, rubbery tails, snapping at each other and feeding on insects. the path leads through under these trees ever so often; and suddenly you feel one of these red, fat stinking rodent stroking over your shoulder, hopping onto your head or downright into your face; then you will be agitatedly trying to free yourself from the squaking furball, which at least is as confused as you, trying to cling on your with its tail or teeth. luckily their bite is weak and mostly harmless. what draws them to fall upon a traveller in bulks, so that you are often hit by five, ten of them at a time and will be frantically shaking them off, is unknown to me.

somehow, i like the buggers.
