Day 166 Adventure Starts At Jail Hill

Took a walk with the kids this afternoon to pass some time before dinner. We started at Jail Hill. To most of you that means nothing. To locals, that means the grounds of the now-abandoned jail, (An interesting post on Flicker shows the jail in its abandoned state here [flickr.com] ) and the best tobogganing site around. We ended up far off course from were I wanted to be (Cty Rd 10 for those who know the area) instead of in the trails near our back yard, which is halfway between the two points, more or less. A half hour walk turned into an hour, trekking through unused trails until we found a spot in someone's back yard to finally find pavement again.

The view across the valley from Jail Hill.

A beautiful grove of sumac trees.

I loved the pattern that the branches made, with the beautiful red leaves contrasted against the blue sky.

Milkweed silk. Milkweed is the food source of Monarch Butterflies. Unfortunately it is also an official Noxious Weed in our Municipality.

These are charming and I too like #4. BTW, still waiting for your print to come back to me, but will be sending it some time this week - I haven't forgotten you!

Don't call me crazy but I love #4! I remember as a young girl it growing along the roadside and fence post but now because of week killers, I have not seen it in a long time.
