more lighting practice

So the kids (being wonderful kids) asked me to take them to the millpond for some photos using off camera flash.

The evening sun makes the millpond a beautiful spot to shoot. I wanted to take advantage of the light and also balance that light with flash.

I'm mostly happy with this attempt. It still looks a bit too “flashy” for my taste, and I'd like to get bigger and better placed catch lights. All good shooting fun, though.

I see your disappointment (on a purely technical level - the pictures are still good!). Not having the benefit of your training (which probably gives you a better solution), I'd edit the midtones to attenuate the "flashy" look.
