strange discrepancies

hm... so Stéfan commented somewhere about page views being down substantially since the roll out, so I thought I'd dig around and see what could be found in the way of blog stats.

You can see in the screen shot below where post views are found and the totals for each post.

Post Management.. screen shot

total views in the dates shown = 288

Hovering over each dot on the line will make the number for that date appear. Add them up and the total is ..... wait, what? 380? What gives? 108 more than the blog management page. That's roughly 37% more.. significant, imo.

Screen shot - Blog Stats

Total for views for the same date range = 380

My viewings are lower and posting is so time consuming, poor timepiece (my husband) postings are non existent as he cannot fill in his profile setting page won't verify the email!!!! Have only just been able to make contact with Ram as my message facility doesn't work, lots of gremlins we shall see......I will hang on in there but do so hope they sort some of the basic problems....

Interesting, M. I saw Stèfan's post about page views, and I have always wondered how some posts could possibly have as many views as they had. Naturally, I thought people were clicking on their own posts to inflate the numbers. Maybe, yes? At any rate, you've brought up an interesting topic here. Only wish I could see clearly your screen shots!

I don't know why some posts get the views they do... clicking your own post to inflate numbers seems... insane lol

and yes, emojis would be great. :-)

@Marjorie I found out the issue for the discrepancy you noticed. We added the views counter to the stats graph recently, so it is only counting the views since July 19th. However, I am not sure why the views seem low compared to the old site. Possibly we need to adjust the way we count a view. I will look into this further.

From above post manage table, I see you get about 30-50 views per post. Is this very different from the old site numbers? (you can check this by going to a random old page of the post manage table).

Thanks.

A month ago I can see the numbers were higher... between 60-120 or something like that. Further back numbers were higher, 200-300 per post.. there is a definite ebb and flow to views here, no doubt about it, but things have definitely dropped off since the roll out. Lots of factors, I'm sure. I've never really been a numbers seeker, my problem is when numbers don't add up, because then it's hard to tell what's real and what's not. Also, stats are good for spotting a trend, like now, when others are also talking about numbers being down.

This probably has to do with the views counting method because from our Google analytics, the new site has more page views compare to before. I will look into this issue.

WOW! Thanks for doing the research! Glad to hear stats are on the rise. Subjectively, I have felt like there is more traffic with the new system! Good Job!!! Thanks!

In fact my own personal views are down, scrolling back through to "pre roll out" posts and the numbers are much higher. Makes me wonder what's up with the those numbers not adding up though... strange stuff

There seems to be all kinds of upheaval around almost any kind of major change in routines. I'm sure it'll all settle down before too long. The ones, like myself, will hang in there, as long as there are folks who keep trying to improve things and who listen to members' feedback. Don't worry be Happy....right??? (grin)
