About Eikóna

Images are powerful things, wielded to good and to evil ends. At their best, they remind us of who we are, and of what we love. They reveal the beauty in the mundane. They give us new eyes; they invite us to see the world anew.

I seek to capture beautiful images. Yet beauty is not always found in the places we expect. With beauty, comes truth, and truth can be ugly sometimes. In the words of Flannery O' Conner, "the truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it." Thus, I seek to capture images that are human, that are real, and that are honest. To capture an honest moment takes courage.

The good image is one that makes the familiar strange; the image that leads us to see a street we have passed one hundred times in a new light; the image that leads us to notice the youthful glimmer in our grandparent's eye we did not see before; the image that makes the steam rising from our morning cup of coffee seem suddenly magical.
