On our way to Tokyo

Actually, we wanted to see the monkeys bathing in hot springs, but when we found out that the Japan macaques don't like spa visits in summer, we decided to change the itinerary. It was the right decision! Not only is Takayama a pretty laid-back and beautiful little town, and just that weekend there was a street festival with all kinds of artistic performances and culinary treats - we've hardly met such incredibly open and warm people in any other place in Japan.

The Macaques is on my wish or bucket list of animals to photograph. Well let me correct that the Japanese Macaques because we have two colonies of them here in the states. 1 in Fla and the other which is lesser known is in SC near Ga. These images look like they could have been taken in a different era kind of a timeless look to the area too.

Thank you 😊 Takayama has a very well preserved old town, there are of course also districts with more modern buildings. But you can see, especially in the more remote places, that the population is aging and the economic dynamism has declined sharply. Therefore, some things in these cities really look as if time has stood still.
