From New York State to Ontario Canada, our 10 hour road trip finally had ended!! It was time to meet the rest of the Canadian family. For those of you who don't know how the Irish and Canadian Millars reconnected you should keep reading!
Years ago my great, great uncle immigrated to Canada for work. Over the years the family connection faded until one summers day in 2013 my dad received a phone call to say that his Canadian cousin was in our church wondering where he was. She was in N.Ireland for the G8 Summit and had a few days to herself.t she would do some exploring but all she had to go on was the name of our church; crazy, right?
So, the main reason for us travelling to Canada was to reunite with the family but we doen some exploring on our own. Now, when your in Canada it is vital that you try a Tim Horton or better known to Canadians as "Timmies". They sell the best hot chocolate and donuts! If you ever get the chance, order a box of "Tim Bits" (donut balls covered with different frosting which are delicious!!)
Ripley's Aquarium is a must! It's located in the centre of Toronto across from the famous Blue Jays baseball stadium and CN tower so its not hard to miss and beats Sea World's aquarium by miles! They have a Jellie fish Planet, Rainbow Reef, a Ray Bay and a Dangerous Lagoon with a moving walkway - highly recommend!
With the CN tower right beside the aquarium you cant go by it! The tower gives you amazing views of the city and Lake Ontario. You can also do the Edge Walk which is a hands free walk around the tower, 356 metres above the city!
You cant go to Canada and not visit Niagara Falls, one of the worlds wonders! I had always wanted to visit Niagara Falls and the fact that it was right in front of me was so surreal! The boat tour on the Hornblower is worth a shot. The Ferry takes you by the American falls and then towards the huge Horseshoe Falls giving you a close up. The amount of mist hitting you is crazy so be prepared with waterproofs and sunglasses!
We travelled to the small town of Niagara-on-the-Lake in Southern Ontario where we were able to do a jet boat tour ( http://www.whirlpooljet.com/ ). This was incredible and such an adrenaline experience!! After you got kitted out with safety gear you board a jet boat which takes you up-river to the rapids where you get absolutely drenched ( the closer to the front, the wetter) ! The boat drives into turbulent 6 rapids where waves engulf you. There's nothing but a metal railing to cling onto so hold on tight!! Check it out on Youtube!!
Now you cant go away on holidays either and not visit a theme park of some description. Canadas' Wonderland is located in Vaughan, Downtown Toronto. This is the place is for everyone from kids to thrill seekers! Try and go on an over-cast day to theme parks but be prepared for possible rain ; not many people go on overcast days and we were able to walk straight onto the rides. There's also a water park called Splash Works however layer up if it's not a hot day because it can get chilly! Wonderland is famous for its' Funnel Cakes (picture below) which is a heart attack on a plate to say the least. Its a massive waffle with toppings of your choice and a big swirl of vanilla whipped ice-cream; what more could you want?
Canada is full of adventure and I cant wait to go back and explore more!
