322. An Angel who flies without Wings: "Her arms remained in heaven, but it has not become a tragedy for anybody"

Simona Atzori, born in Milan in 1974 into a family of Sardinian origin. Although born without arms, has formed herself as an aclaimed painter and ballet dancer. Simona Atzori has been painting with her feet, since she was just 4 years. At 18, she refused to fix artificial arms saying that she is born like this and this is her identity. In 2000 she danced for Pope John Paul II on the occasion of the Jubilee, and the following year she graduated in Visual Arts at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Simona Atzori has risen again on the stage of the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Turin in 2006.In 2011 she has also become a writer, publishing the book “What do you miss to be happy?”. Simona Atzori offers motivational meetings. Her life example shows clearly the tenacity and courage that for many have a real lesson in life.

“Her arms remained in heaven, but it has not become a tragedy for anybody”: so wrote Candido Cannavò, the great Italian journalist about Simona Atzori in 2005, in his book “And they call them disabled.”

In fact, is it not we that are ‘dis-abled’?!!
