Portraits

by Rachel The Introvert January. 19, 2019 567 views

Since the theme this week is portraits I decided to post a few of my favorite ones. I take pictures on a daily basis. Probably due to being a mother and then also because of my business. I love a good portrait especially when I love the face behind the lens.

this is same picture I have in the themes forum of my 2 year old son. He’s an old soul and doesn’t smile a lot, he has a more a serious nature. Ive learned to love and appreciate it as a part of what makes him HIM!❤️

i love serious faces - especially children. As a portrait photographer it grates on my nerves when I constantly hear parents harping on their children,

”Smile Billy!!!”

“Oh my God, just SMILE Stella!! I’ll give you ice cream afterwards if you can just freaking smile.”

Most the Time if they’d just let them be I can get get them to talk to me and open up and usuallymgove a big natural smile while interacting. I hate fake smiles and fake smiles on children make me sad. A serious pensive face is just beautiful and meaningful as a great big grin.

Of course when I get a smile, a real smile from my children, it’s A beautiful thing as well!

How about a pouty face? One that says get that thing outta my face Mom!!!

One thing id love to get better at with portraits is just being more creative. whether that’s crop, or lighting (or lack of lighting), location. Im challenging myself to do new things this year that I haven’t tried. Hope to have a lot of work to show for it.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by ❤️ Hope your having a fantastic weekend!

Xx

So kind Antonio - thank you so much. Definitely have room for improvement on both but I’m always learning!

Another great series, Rachel smile And about the smiles: it's indeed just as nonsensical to "ask" children to smile as "asking" adults to "say cheese". The maximum result you'll get will be a grin (unless that would, of course, be the goal).

Haha!! A lot of children will strengthen the resolve to not smile even more when their told to. It’s amusing to watch their eyebrows narrow as they start the ultimate battle with their Mum on whether they will smile or not 😂 so funny!

Unfortunately, faking smiles as kids is the beginning of how we are "trained" to fake everything else too, isn't it? Having to smile on pictures is about the same category as having to say "fine" to the question "How are you?", imho. Anyhow, you captured some fine & honest portraits there. Keep on challenging yourself!

Ah yes, great minds think alike. I feel this way as well. It’s something very small but it’s jusy one of the ways we learn as a society to hide our true selves or practice a little dishonesty about who we really are. Honest portraits are what I dream of capturing  so I greatly appreciate the comment!
