My very first baseball game I ever attended in New Jersey was in 2004 to go see the now-defunct Newark Bears. Fast forward to 2009, when I learned my favorite former MLB player of all time was then managing them. I was determined to meet him. I did. (For the record: Tim Raines should be in the MLB Hall of Fame already). And something else happened. After a season of commuting from NYC to Newark, I decided to move to NJ in 2010. The following seasons I attended a lot of their games both at home and on the road. My son ultimately began working for the team in various capacities which was surreal watching him interact with guys I grew up watching in the 80s. I formed friendships with fellow fans and we'd become a baseball family. Last year we were in mourning as our team no longer existed. One such fan decided to post a reunion for us faithful to wear our Newark Bears attire and attend a New Jersey Jackals game (and former league rival). It was a lot of fun seeing old faces, reminiscing of our individual and collective memories. I also made some new friends.
