I saw the farmhand across my road preparing a liquid then putting it in old plastic bottles THEN hung them in the olive tree.
I should have gone over to ask WHY??? There must be a good logical reason for this but my intelligence doesn't quite reach this !!!!
Does yours??? the bottles are closed too as you can see the coloured tops.
Asked , And you were all partly correct . The liquid in the bottles is part washing-up liquid and water , and the bottles have small holes punched in them . The smell of the liquid attracts a small fly- pest for the growing olives which leaves eggs and they grow into a worm and ruin the olives .
So the farmer doesn't like to use chemical pesticides so this is a natural remedy he was trying out .

Could it be an automatic fertilizer or watering device? if it had a tiny leak on the bottom for the liquid to drop slowly to the ground through, I don't see why it would not make sense... Please do go and ask them, I am really curious now ...

Bird scarers? Or maybe there's some small holes we can't see and inside is sugared water to trap wasps?
