I've been studying the reptiles on this site for a number of years.

Adder - Vipera Berus
Adders are a declining species in the UK and we should do everything we can to protect them.

Beautiful Spring stroll in sunny ‪Epping Forest‬.
Lovely to see & hear the lizards scurrying through the open grasslands & heaths.
I had the pleasure of seeing grass snakes, fallow bucks, woodcocks, frogs, toads, newts, lizards, rabbits, buzzards & a kestrel.

The earliest documented record of a Mandarin in essex was of a solitary male at Connaught Water in Epping Forest between November 15th 1947 & February 1948.

I've been checking forest ponds whilst out walking.
Frog spawn was found at strawberry hill pond, bomb crater pond, little wake valley east, oak plain pond, lilly pond, deer shelter pond & a couple of ephemeral ponds.

Mandarin Duck - Aix galericulata

Adders are the only venomous snakes found in Britain. (site 2)
Although an adder’s venom poses little danger to a healthy adult human, the bite is very painful and requires urgent medical attention

The viviparous or common lizard (Zootoca vivipara)

These colourful ducks were introduced to the UK from China and have become established following escapes from captivity.

Adders are the most northerly distributed snake and the only species found inside the Arctic circle. (site 1)

Useful head shot. (site 1)

Love the mandarins - all bright and chirpy looking for a mate.
Faved the best for painting - if I may!
As always, a magnificent series for spring's debut.

You do get to see a lot of adders mossy, I have never seen one but I've seen a few lizards. Another pleasing journey through the woodlands of Britain.
