DineLA Restaurant Week: Wilshire Restaurant

dineLA Restaurant Week is a two-week dining event established to introduce diners to the vast array of restaurants in neighborhoods throughout LA County. Local foodies and visitors to LA will the opportunity to enjoy a selection of specially priced three-course meals from some of LA's best restaurants during this dining event.

It's a fun time for a foodie like me. Last night was our first DineLA outing and after a few snafus, we ended up at Wilshire Restaurant in Santa Monica. It was our first time there and we had a terrific evening with our friends Grace and Marc. Absolutely beautiful outdoor heated patio, impeccable service and outstanding food. Sometimes when the restaurants participate in special events like this, the servers have attitude and the portions are small, but this wasn’t the case at Wilshire. It was too dark to take any pictures, so I grabbed some from their website. If part of the objective of DineLA is to introduce diners to places they might not have normally gone to in hopes of drumming up return business, in the case of Wilshire it really worked, we can't wait to go back.

Here was the special menu, priced at $34 per person, I highlighted what I chose.

Choice 1 - Grilled Octopus - Chicories, Black Trumpet Mushrooms, Pequillo Pepper, Meyer Lemon
Choice 2 - Poached Pear and Spinach Salad - Blue Cheese, Candied Walnuts, Pickled Radish
Choice 3 - Ricotta Gnocchi - Hedgehog Mushrooms, Cippolini Onion, Chestnuts

Choice 1 - Wild Mushroom Duck Pot Pie - Farmers Market Winter Vegetables
Choice 2 - Moroccan Spiced Lamb Stew - Fregola Sarda, Cauliflower, Pequillo Pepper Harissa, Banana Raita
Choice 3 - Miso Marinated Black Cod - Crispy Rice, Shiitake Mushroom Salsa

Choice 1 - Espresso Float - White Chocolate Ice Cream
Choice 2 - Apple Tart Tartine - Creme Fraiche Ice Cream

Really impressive menu. Between the four of us, we tried every option (except for the octopus). The presentation on Graces lamb stew was gorgeous as was Paul's potpie. The espresso float came with some homemade donuts, not advertised, that were a nice surprise….
