After a spell of inactivity from my blog; I thought sharing the latest development in life would be a good way to re-connect with the "social-world".
Whilst not actively posting to my blog...I have been more than active in camera practise...and since this little guy came along, I have had a very...patient, model to practise portrait photography with.
I have been learning mostly about portraiture and lighting for the past 12 months...a rather large learning curve; but that's much of the fun of photography. Putting all that information into practise and finally getting the shots you want to create.
For this shot I used a basic set-up using two speedlites. I used a shoot through umbrella with one flash as my main light and a whiteboard as a reflector to bounce the second flash back to the other side of the face, acting as my fill light. I set my flash's quite close to my son as he was laying down and found that when the light source was at any distance; what he was laying on caused odd shadow casts on his face. I used all manual settings so I could be in complete control of the lighting and camera...a process I find is very helpful in understanding lighting.
