Present Day...

A great time to snap some candid portraits of our little lad. It's always amusing; toddlers have a room full of funky toys and musical things...and they choose a box, a small piece of wrapping paper; or go to the kitchen drawer and get the colander to wear as a hat...

I've had a Rogue 3-in-1 Flash Grid, unused, in my equipment box for...longer than I care to admit. Knowing I would need speed and manoeuvrability to get some shots of a "can't-sit-still" toddler, flash (speedlite) was going to be my ally; but bare bulb, on-camera flash isn't an overly flattering source and it's want, is to throw light EVERYWHERE...

I wanted to isolate my subjects from the clutter and chaos that is Christmas morning and the Rogue Grid helps focus the light down to a 15 degree (max of 45 degree) spot with nice feathering.

I used my 50mm prime on my Nikon D90: auto ISO and i-TTL.
