More Osaka, Tsutenkaku Tower, and Billiken

I had helped with an english class at the Tamenori residence earlier last week, and they were nice enough to offer to show me around Osaka. We headed out to see Tsutenkaku tower which is a 103 meter tall tower in Higashi Ebisu. From the top you can see most of Osaka including Osaka-jo… but it was a bit cloudy out so my camera couldn't pick much out of the fog. Right below, you can also view Tennoji zoo. After, the they treated me to kushikatsu which is fried food on a stick basically. Very good stuff (and it actually turned out to be quite pricey… but they never let me pay for anything). We ended the day walking around Nipponbashi which is Osaka's electronics district. Over there I picked up a copy of “Tales from Earthsea” which came out in Japan in 2006, but is coming out in theaters this August in the US. If you haven't already seen it, I suggest you check it out!

Tsutenkaku and Mr Tamenori.

Base of the tower. Its actually the second tower. The first was modelled after the Eiffel Tower but was destroyed in the war, and later rebuilt as the current one.

Giraffes in the Tennoji Zoo.

Panorama of the zoo.

Mrs. Tamenori, Billiken, and me. Billiken actually came from America and spread throughout Japan. He is the god of “things as they should be.” You rub his feet for good luck…. but I just think he's creepy. haha

Picked up some orange Fanta. The taste is weaker here. meh. Wish they had Cactus Cooler. Haha. I can only dream.

The Tamenori's bought me a cell phone strap. It says “yossha” which is Osaka dialect for something along the lines of “Yea!”

I'm too tall for this country! I always look gigantic! haha

Mr. Tamenori enjoying the kushikatsu menu. Haha

mmm… yummy. (no really, its yummy)
