Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum ~ Part II

by Sara G March. 03, 2011 6669 views

Very interesting tour of the beginning of worldwide Coco-Cola..Guide gave us a nickel to buy a coke from the old machine..We're each holding one of the first coke bottles, all experimental. Niece Catherine on left, daughter Sheri, sister Sue and myself.

First bottle encased, had Biedenharn name on it instead of Coca-Cola

I didn't know they sold it in jugs!

The tour guide was really funny and interesting

First machine to bottle it one at a time by pushing the pedal down to fill it..

Typical delivery man

The official Coke Santa on the far right

Founders..John started working in the plant when he was fourteen years old..Joseph advised him to sell everything he could for a nickel (5 cents) because people would pay that better than a dime. After he died it was raised to six cents and on up….

Lovely illustrations and really interesting - I heard somewhere (probably an urban legend) that Coke originally actually contained 'coke' - did they mention this??

That old Coke was really good, too. When I was a teenager I worked in a drugstore. The druggist poured straight Coke syrup into bottles for customers with upset stomachs. Nice shots.

Did they mention that there was cocaine in the original Coke? (thus the name) It's what supposedly made it addicting. I've read that, but never really knew if it was true.
