Let the Sparks Fly

Went out to get some shots of the Northern Lights but they didn't make a strong showing. Luckily I always have some steal wool on my person, so we lit that up and had a grand old time.

I had more fun this time after talking to some local photographers about night photography. So with some helpful hints and tricks I think these turned out pretty alright.

Really cool photos, Nicole. I didn't know that this steal wool is burning. I watched some clips on youtube about this kind of photography, after I saw your photos. Very interesting !

I know! When I was looking at long exposure shots at night these ones kept popping up and I though they were the coolest thing. The thin steal wool works the best for lighting, unless you have a blow torch (I do so the thicker wool works too). I put the wool into a whisk and I attached a chain to it and put duck tap around the end to make a better grip. Once you light it you have to get air through it pretty quick or it will go out!!! I keep all of this with my camera equipment now just in case I get the chance to light it up :)
